Okahirongo River Camp in the Marienfluss valley is like an oasis at the end of the earth. It lies 200 km deeper into Kaokoland in a lunar landscape of gravel plains and ancient volcanic mountains. The camp is an eco-friendly lodge built on a sweeping ridge and opening up to breathtaking views of the Kunene River.

Rooms: 5 luxury double tents and one family unit are constructed with wood and canvas and each have a magnificent view of their own.  Each tent has indoor and outdoor showers, spacious decks guarantee utmost comfort and the exclusive right of being at one with nature. Fall asleep to the sound of the rushing river below – the perfect African lullaby.

Activities: explore the magical surroundings on an early morning walk or a scenic drive into the mountains or golden sand dunes complete with unforgettable sun-downers. The wonders of the Kunene River will provide plenty of entertainment, be it fishing (conventionally and fly fishing), cruising along the river in awe of the rich birdlife or be on the lookout for some mighty crocodiles. Get some exercise by hiking along the river and marvel at the unspoilt flora and fauna of the unique terrain.

Visit a traditional Himba village, which you will find an authentic experience, as the semi-nomadic local tribe has not yet been spoilt by tourism, due to the remoteness of the area.

Facilities: swimming pool, library, curio shop, safe in the room, fan, mosquito net, weak up call with coffee or tea in the room.
At Sesfontein turn west onto the D3707 track. Follow this for around 119 km until you reach Purros - the lodge is a few kilometres past Purros.
